Dear God

Through bad and good, best and worst I have come

And sometimes it’s difficult to know you are there in any of it

I know what I’m supposed to know about you, and often I read your bible, yet you are still distant. An ‘absentee landlord’ as some say.

God, without you there is no hope and no reason to love and no one to fight the cause of justice.

Please become real to me.

I could say ‘I want to know you’ but that would be a lie. At the very least, I want to want to know you. Grant me that desire and be it’s fulfilment.

Remember me this night as darkness takes hold and I surrender my body to sleep

Amen
