I saw Jesus

by i.burgess on December 9, 2010

I saw Jesus just now,
at least, I think was him.
His skin was darker than I’d expected,
I’d always pictured him less slim

I saw Jesus just now,
just like he said.
A hungry man standing in the cold
A starving man begging for bread

I saw Jesus just now,
I drove right past him.
The lonely figure at the intersection
The Man of God who takes away my sin

I saw Jesus just now,
The limping figure of a broken man.
“If anyone can make a difference to him,
Jesus can”

I saw Jesus just now,
I was oblivious to the see.
That when I walk right by him
He walks right by me

I saw Jesus just now,
I hope he will forgive
For I did not serve the least of these,
Out of my great abundance, I did not give.

I saw Jesus just now,
Standing with a sign,
Would I ever realise, in serving him
The kingdom of heaven would be mine?
